Foster Care to College Mentoring Program Coordinator

Did you know that currently in the state of Washington, 60% of youth in foster care do not graduate high school and that of the 40% who do graduate, only 2% graduate with a bachelor’s degree?

In comparison to other students, youth in care:

-may be less prepared for post-secondary education

-may face significant barriers to enrollment

-may not have supportive resources or ever even hear the worlds “You can go to college”

A recent study indicates that, 87% of former foster youth who are currently successful in college reported that they had a friend or mentor that they could ask for help and advice when needed.

In the Foster Care to College Mentoring Program, you can volunteer starting at just two hours a month and at no cost to you!  A mentor’s role is to provide encouragement and support to help foster youth get into college.  The program’s coordinator will arm mentor’s with trainings and the educational resources that youth need to apply for and get into college.

If you are interested in making the difference in the life of a young person, call Jen today at 509-325-7080.
