Personality Bio
It me---J.J. Hemingway----Your "Spokane Radio Pal." I'm a native of the Northwest--born in Seattle, growing up in West Seattle, Bellevue and Redmond. I'm a proud graduate of Redmond High School--same green and gold colors like Shadle Park.

For me--When it came to being on the radio---it was "Like Father---Like Son" My dad Jack Hemingway was an air personality in Seattle for many years, and by the time I was 3---when I got my first record player for Christmas, I knew radio was what I wanted to do. I used to get to go to the radio stations on Saturdays with my dad and go on the radio with him, and after having my own radio station at home---practicing very hard....just on tape.....I got my first job when I was a junior in high school at a little AM Oldies station in Seattle. Moved onto FM radio in Seattle, then in 1976, got an offer to go cross-country ---all the way to Savannah doing my first morning show. From there is was onto Winston-Salem/Greensboro, then to Greenville/Spartanburg, back to Seattle for a year, then to Dallas/Ft. Worth, Colorado Springs, Spokane (the first time), Great Falls, down to Columbus (Ga.), and since June of 1998 here at "Lite Rock Kiss 98.1."

Along the way I've even hosted a couple of TV shows along the way---a Comedy Show and a Hockey TV show.

Being in broadcasting is fun....nothing else I'd rather do. Besides hosting every Monday-Friday from 3-7 here on Lite Rock KISS 98.1, I have my own commercial production company called "Cascade Broadcast Services" a.k.a. "CBS-Spokane," and I do commercials and voiceovers for radio stations all over the U.S. from a recording studio in my home.

So, don't be too surprised if you're outside of Spokane and you hear me on an out of town radio station. I also get some assistance from talented folks like "Wise Guy" Rob Harder, Tammy Jo, Scott Shannon and others. Check out my website and find out more at:
www.cbsspokane1.com.

I am so glad to call Spokane home. I was here in 1991-92, was away until May of 1998, and when I returned  it once again felt like I had returned home. All you have to do is live in another area of the country, then you realized how blessed you are to live here in the Northwest. I'm a big fan of all types of music---except rap--yukko!!!    I have a collection of around 8500 cd's, and I also collect movies and have around 1500 of those. A couple of my all-time favorites are "Sleepless In Seattle," "It's A Wonderful Life," "Serendipity," "Rainman," "Click," "The Family Man," "When Harry Met Sally," & Mel Gibson's "The Passion Of The Christ."

When it comes to TV--don't watch as much as I used to, but I do watch alot of the Fox News Channel--I really like Bill O'Reilly, and "Hannity & Colmes," and I also love "Cold Case," "Law And Order," "NCIS," "Stargate: SG1,"(now just in reruns)--and I actually have all 10 seasons on DVD--that show I really am a fan of the show.  I also enjoy "Stargate: Atlantis," and "Battlestar Galactica"  Unfortunantly in it's final season---that's a bummer--it's a great show, superb storyline and a greast cast---with the final episodes apparently airing sometime in 2009.  Not sure who makes the programming decisions at the Sci-Fi Channel...but I hate to wait so long to watch new episodes.

I love catching a Mariners game when I can make the trip over to Safeco Field, as well as the Sonics, Seahawks, Cougars, Huskies as well as our own Indians and  Chiefs---and of course our own Gonzaga Bulldogs(if I can ever get tickets---that's hard to do)!!

I bowl 3 nights a week, averaging around 204 this year---it's  probably those 4 bowling balls I own and take with me that help!! And like the "Wise Guys" enjoy playing golf.

I love cars----I do drive a Silver Toyota Solara convertible with the tag RadioJJ---so if you see it--that's me!!!

Got a neat old car I bought in 2000---It's 1972 Volvo 1800es with just 72,000 original miles on it. It you see an unusual red car around Spokane---that might just be me behind the wheel.

It's an usual car Volvo only made this model for 2 years in 1972 & 1973, and mine is model #1778 out of the 8400 they built those two years in Sweden. And in 1972 Volvo only imported 1684 to the U.S.  So, I do have kind of an unusual car.  It's a 4-speed with overdrive and it is fun to drive!  It gets lots of thumbs up when I drive it around Spokane.

Bit of a quirky car--but everything works perfectly---even the clock and surprisingly it does have Air Conditioning.    You will see it from time to time at car shows around the Inland Northwest.   I also have gotten into Volkswagens---I now own a yellow 1974 VW Karmann Ghia convertible, and one I just got in December of 2006---a 1978 Red Beetle Convertible.   Yes--I do love convertibles.

I love new restaurants---especially ones that serve Mexican food and/or a great steak---and I'm not a bad cook myself---with my "claim to fame" being the creator of the "World's Greatest Mashed Potatoes."

I even enjoy shopping---and with a 21 year old daughter---you gotta love shopping.  Her name's Breanna and she lives in the Seattle area--works at Starbucks, and is attending Bible College.    She's my #1 girl. I live in the North part of Spokane, and attend Life Center--the one by Spokane Falls Community College--Pastor Joe rocks!!

That's the "J.J. Story" and I'm stickin' to it. Thanks for being a member of our "Lite Rock Kiss 98.1" Listening Family. And most of all---thanks for letting me be a part of your afternoon from 3-7.   As well as Saturdays mid-day from 9am-3pm.

E-mail me when you get a chance and let me know you're listening.

What Gives You A Jump-Start In The Morning?
Friday 09-05-2008 3:53pm PT
Found this in Redbook Magazine....Redbook asked "What Gives You A Jump Start In The Morning?   And here's what their readers said, see how you fit in...

•Coffee-------35%

•A Shower----28%

•Breakfast----14%

•Sunshine-----12%

•Exercise-------6%

•Sex------------5%

I'm thinking---how about more sleep????  But if I had to pick one of those, i say it's gotta be the shower....nothing like a hot shower in the morning to get your day started right!!!   & Of course waking up with the "Kiss Morning Crew"---Rob, Mark, Tammy Jo & Harv...that's the best way to way up here in Spokane-Coeur d'Alene--guaranteed!

Some Amazing Stats On--Garbage!!
Wednesday 09-03-2008 4:26pm PT
These stats I ran across just might make you a little more "green" so to speak.....

•4.4--in pounds, the average amount of waste generated per person per day in the U.S.(as of 2002).  Back in 1960 we generated 2.7 pounds per person per day.

•50%--Percentage of the world's garbage produced by the U.S.(we have just 6% of the world's population),

1896---The year the very first recycling center was opened up here in America.

•500,000----The number of trees that could be saved each week IF everyone recycles their Sunday newspaper.

More Signs That You Are Grown Up......
Wednesday 09-03-2008 4:20pm PT
You Know You're Grown Up When....

...You make an appointment to get your teeth cleaned without anyone having to remind you.

...Strangers compliment your best friend on her new haircut and you don't feel the overwhelming urge to race out and get your own hair styled the same way.

...You realize that sometimes it's really better to say nothing at all if you can't say something nice.

...Vacations become sacred----they're not just a bunch of days in a row when you don't have to show up for work!

...You buy yourself an overpriced pair of boots, a weekend in San Francisco or a new puppy----just because you can...

These words of wisdom came from Redbook Magazine.
Some You Don't Know About Restaurants...This Suprised Me!!
Wednesday 09-03-2008 4:05pm PT
Here's something very sneaky about restaurants......according to scientists---being warm is satisfying.  In other words, the warmer you are, the fuller you feel.  Could this be why restaurants often keep thermostats low---so we'll eat more?  Just a thought!!!
What Men Think About Women Getting Plastic Surgery....
Wednesday 09-03-2008 3:34pm PT
A recent Cosmo poll asked---"What do you think of a girl who goes under the knife to alter her appearance?"

And here's what the guys had to say:

60% of guys say---"It's Unnecessary...Why Mess With Mother Nature?"

40% of guys say---"I'm Cool With It.  It's A Personal Decision."

My take---it is a personal decision, but when it comes to my girl, I love her just the way she is---NO changes needed, pretty much perfection in my book!!
